What to expect from a heating service call

heating service call from Air and Water Factor Cooling Heating Plumbing Mesa Arizona
It’s wintertime in Arizona, and you just might need a home heating service call. Although many home owners know the value of having their HVAC system inspected, many simply don’t know what to expect in regards to what is completed during a typical home heating inspection.

Here’s what you need to know.

Top 4 Steps Included In A Proper Heating Service Call

1: A Home Heating Service Inspection Will Check Fluids

A heating unit, just like any other mechanical device requires proper lubrication in order to protect moving parts. Believe it or not, there are several moving parts in the typical heating system. The first part of any inspection often begins with a visual check of the major components. This is where the service professional will give the entire unit a good ‘overview’ to see if anything pops out as being broken, or needing repair. However, their next step is to check the oil and lubrication levels of the heating system.

2: They Will Inspect Belts and Hoses

After checking and topping off all fluids and lubricants for the heating system, the home heating unit inspection will move onto belts, hoses and operational pieces. Just like a car, the belts and hoses of a heating system will wear out over time. But what most people don’t consider is that they also tend to stretch or loosen, which will cause the heating unit to run inefficiently. It could lead to a complete system shut down of mechanical part failure. It is due to this significant issue that any home heating unit inspection will include inspecting, tightening and replacing any and all belts, hoses and attachment pieces.

3: They Will Replace Internal Filters

After checking fluids and belts, the next step of the internal heating system inspection will be to inspect and replace the filters leading from the ductwork into and out of the heating unit. A heating unit works by pulling air from inside the home, heating up that air and then return the warm air to the house. During this process, all the dust, debris and other materials that float in the air and get trapped inside the ductwork find themselves inside the filtration system of the actual heating unit. And just like any other filter, this item will become full and needs to be replaced; we suggest doing changing air filters on a monthly basis.

4: The Thermostat Should Be Calibrated

After the home heating unit is physically inspected and critical items replaced, tightened and filled-up, the final step is to calibrate the thermostat. Although it is very rare that the thermostat will fall out of calibration though normal use, there are times when these systems fail. This is typical for manual thermostats found in older homes – as new digital thermostats are much more reliable. But, as a final check, a good service professional will inspect and calibrate the thermostat to complete the home heating service inspection.
